The Joint 10th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention and the 26th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, Paris, France, 17 - 21 November 2021 > Ministerial Roundtable Documents

Ministerial roundtable discussion to focus on challenges under the Montreal Protocol

A ministerial roundtable will be held on 21 November from 10.00 to 11.30 a.m. under agenda item 5 of the joint 10th Conference of the Parties to the Vienna Convention and 26th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol to discuss issues that constitute the main challenges to be addressed by countries in the coming decade in the context of the Montreal Protocol.

The objective of the ministerial roundtable discussion is to enable an open and engaging dialogue to enhance the focus on the key aspects of statements by heads of delegations. The roundtable will include discussants from a number of parties, a moderator and a rapporteur.

Mr. Fernando Lugris, Ambassador and Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, President of the Committee of the Whole of the United Nations Environment Assembly, will deliver brief opening remarks focusing on the achievements of the Montreal Protocol to date. He will also serve as the moderator and rapporteur of the roundtable discussion.

Discussants from Argentina, Bahrain, European Union, Maldives, Norway, Tanzania and United States of America have been identified on the basis of equitable geographical representation. They will each deliver a three‑minute observation on the issues that they believe constitute the main challenges in the context of the Montreal Protocol.

Following their observations, the moderator will invite participants from the floor to contribute in the ensuing interactive discussion. At the end of the roundtable discussion, the rapporteur will present a summary of the main discussion points that will form part of the report of the meeting of the Parties.
